Hatteras Yachts
36 Sport Fisherman
1983–86
The Hatteras 36 Sport Fisherman is a heavy boat for her size, a fact that doubtless accounts for her sedate performance. Hull construction is solid fiberglass with balsa coring applied in the deck and superstructure. The 36 SF runs on a Jim Wynne-designed hull with recessed propeller pockets below for reduced shaft angles, the same hull used in the production of the Hatteras 36 Convertible (1983–87). Three steps down into the cabin reveals a practical layout with stylish fabrics, attractive high-pressure plastic laminates, and teak trim. There are berths for four (with the dinette converted), a full galley, and a separate stall shower in the head compartment. Not only is this interior completely modern and appealing, it’s easy to clean as well. Her bi-level cockpit layout is well suited for serious deep-water fishing and came standard with cockpit bolsters, rod holders, transom door, and a built-in fish box. Other features include wide walkaround side decks, bow pulpit, an elevated helm position, a wraparound windshield, and easy cockpit access to the engines. Optional 390hp GM 6-71 diesels cruise at 22–23 knots.
