Hatteras Yachts
36 Sedan
1986–87
One of the few Hatteras misfires during the 1980s, the Hatteras 36 Sedan is basically the same boat as the Hatteras 36 Convertible (1983–87) but with a larger interior and smaller cockpit dimensions. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and the hull is designed with moderate beam, a shallow keel, and prop pockets. Two mid-galley interior layouts were available in the 36 Sedan: a dinette floorplan with a single stateroom, and a two-stateroom arrangement without the dinette. Either way, the head compartment is very large and includes a separate stall shower. The interior is finished with traditional teak woodwork throughout, and it’s notable that a lower helm option was never offered. While the salon is very roomy for a 36-footer, the cockpit is too small for any serious fishing activities. Additional features include a big flybridge, good engine access, and fairly wide side decks. An unexciting performer with standard 350hp Crusader gas engines, the Hatteras 36 Sedan will cruise at 14 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 23 knots. Diesels were optional and a little faster. Note that production of the 36 Sedan lasted only two years.
