Hatteras Yachts

36 Convertible

1969–77

Hatteras Yachts 36 Convertible
Introduced in 1969, the original Hatteras 36 Convertible (note that a later model came out in 1983) remained popular well into the 1990s in spite of her obviously dated profile and overbuilt hull construction. Equally adept as a fishboat or family cruiser, early models had a single-stateroom interior with the galley down and a standard lower helm. A two-stateroom version with the galley up became available in 1975, and both layouts came with V-berths forward and a built-in settee in the salon. While the accommodations are not considered spacious by today’s standards, the mahogany woodwork and quality hardware, fixtures, and systems installed aboard the Hatteras 36 make renovations practical and reasonably cost-effective. The cockpit is large enough for a mounted chair and tackle center, but the flybridge and (especially) the engine room are both small. Never known for her blinding speed, standard 330hp gas engines cruise the Hatteras 36 Convertible at 18 knots (26–27 top) while the optional Caterpillar 3160 diesels cruise around 15 knots with a top speed of 18 knots. Fuel capacity was increased in 1971 to 300 gallons.
