Hatteras Yachts
70 Motor Yacht
1971–82
The Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht was the largest production fiberglass yacht produced by any builder when she was introduced in 1971. Indeed, because of her length Hatteras had to open a new plant in New Bern, NC from which to launch her, the main Hatteras facility being some 250 miles inland at the time. Designed to be captain operated and maintained, the Hatteras 70’s galley-down interior accommodates owner and guests in three large staterooms aft of the engine room. Crew quarters for three (in two cabins) are forward of the galley. The main deck layout features a comfortable salon with a staircase to port leading down to the staterooms. The enclosed wheelhouse features port/starboard deck doors and bridge access ladder, and a formal dining room is forward, three steps down from the pilothouse level. The Hatteras 70’s semi-enclosed afterdeck is fitted with wing doors and extended side windshields for weather protection. Side decks are partially sheltered by a bridge overhang, and the engine room is accessed from the galley area. Standard Detroit 12V71TI diesels cruise at 12–14 knots (16–18 top). Note that a new Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht came out in 1988.
