Hatteras Yachts
70 Extended Deckhouse MY
1976–82
Successor to the original Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht—the largest full-production motor yacht available during most of the 1970s—the Hatteras 70 Extended Deckhouse MY raised the standard of motor yacht extravagance to the next level. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a wide 18'7" beam and shallow keel, the 70 EDMY has a more modern flybridge and superstructure profile than her predecessor as well as a more contemporary galley-up interior. The pilothouse is set well forward on the foredeck, a feature that results in a considerably enlarged main salon as well as improved helm visibility. The floorplan is divided with the owner and guest staterooms aft of the engine room, and crew quarters—with separate staterooms for a captain and two mates—forward. The expansive deckhouse salon of the 70 Extended Deckhouse gives this yacht entertaining potential on a grand scale. The semi-enclosed aft deck is equally spacious with wing doors that open onto broad, partially sheltered side decks. (Note that several of these yachts boast a fully enclosed air-conditioned aft deck.) Detroit 650hp 12V71 diesels cruise at 12–14 knots. A total of 11 were built.
