Hatteras Yachts 53 Yacht Fisherman
While never achieving the widespread popularity of the larger 58 Yacht Fisherman, the Hatteras 53 YF nevertheless combines all the comforts of a motor yacht with the added versatility of a cockpit. Interestingly, the 53 YF was withdrawn from production in 1981, only to be reintroduced in 1986 with an enlarged flybridge, updated interior decor, and the new GM 6V92TA diesels. Constructed on the same single-chine hull as the 53 Motor Yacht and Convertible models, the 53 Yacht Fisherman shares their reputation for being a wet ride offshore. She was offered with a choice of two- or three-stateroom interior floorplans with the three-stateroom layout being the most popular. (Note that the owner’s cabin in the two-stateroom version is extremely spacious.) As they were with many Hatteras motor yachts of her era, the central passageway leading aft from the galley splits the engine rooms. Topside, a small observation deck overlooks the cockpit, and the flybridge is arranged with bench seating forward of the helm. With the early GM 8V71TI diesels or the later 6V92TAs, the cruising speed of the Hatteras 53 YF is around 16–17 knots. Fuel capacity was significantly increased in 1980.
