48 Yacht Fisherman

1972–75

Hatteras Yachts 48 Yacht Fisherman
Built on the stretched hull of a Hatteras 44 Motor Yacht, the 48 Yacht Fisherman enjoyed only moderate market success during her relatively brief production run in the early 1970s. She was originally developed to offer the spaciousness and comfort of a motor yacht with the sportfishing capability of a convertible — a design concept that has grown in popularity over the years. The Hatteras 48 YF came with a choice of two floorplans: a two-stateroom layout with a huge master suite aft, and a more popular three-stateroom arrangement with the extra guest cabin at the expense of the aft stateroom dimensions. Both heads were fitted with separate stall showers and the interior was completely finished with teak paneling and joinery. The salon dimensions are notably roomy. Outside, the semi-enclosed lower helm and aft deck are on the same level and overlook the cockpit. Note that the flybridge ladder is accessed from the cockpit rather than the aft deck. The side decks are very wide, but the flybridge is small even by 1970’s standards. With optional 425hp GM 8V71TI diesels, the Hatteras 48 YF will cruise at 17 knots and reach 20–21 knots top.
