Hatteras Yachts 48 Cockpit Motor Yacht
The Hatteras 48 Cockpit Motor Yacht (not to be confused the newer Hatteras 48 Cockpit Motor Yacht produced in the 1990s) combines the practicality of a traditional aft-cabin motoryacht with the utility that only a cockpit can offer. Introduced in an era of high fuel prices, she was built on what Hatteras called a “dual mode” hull with rounded bilges forward, flat aftersections, and a long keel for directional stability. (The idea was to offer both low- and high-speed fuel efficiency.) The standard layout included a centerline double berth in the master cabin (twin single berths were optional), comfortable salon with an optional lower helm, and over/under bunks in the forward stateroom. An optional three-stateroom floorplan traded out the dinette for a third stateroom while leaving the galley down. Either way, the aft stateroom dimensions are impressive. Teak woodwork was used throughout the interior, and the only stall shower is aft. The semi-enclosed aft deck of the Hatteras 48 is huge for a boat this size with plenty of space for socializing. The cockpit is useful for line handling and boarding. No racehorse, Detroit 285hp 671N diesels cruise at 12–13 knots. Optional 425hp 6V92TA diesels cruise at 15–16 knots.
