Hatteras Yachts
45 Convertible
1968–73
There always seems to be a market for the old Hatteras 45 Convertible. Her profile is that of a classic sportfisherman with a high foredeck and sweeping sheerline ending with a low-freeboard cockpit. Solid hull construction and good seakeeping qualities have made the 45 Convertible a favorite among tournament-minded anglers. Her conventional two-stateroom, galley-down interior includes a spacious main salon with a complete lower helm station and built-in lounge seating to port. A less popular galley-up model was also available with an open day berth replacing the galley in the companionway. A versatile boat, the spacious cockpit in the Hatteras 45 gets high marks for good all-around fishability. The old-style flybridge, however, is small. (Note that the original centerline pedestal bridge layout was revised in 1970 to a more versatile tournament-style design.) The popular engine choices were GM 8V71Ns (15 knots cruise/18 knots top) and GM 8V71TIs (around 19 knots at cruise and 22 knots at full throttle). A wet ride in a chop—many were fitted with aftermarket spray rails—resale values of early Hatteras 45 Convertibles remained strong well into the 1980s.
