Hatteras Yachts
42 Cockpit Motor Yacht
1993–97
A reverse transom is the distinguishing feature of the Hatteras 42 Cockpit Motor Yacht, a stylish aft cabin yacht that’s just the right size for cruising families and adventurous retirees. (Reverse transoms were popular with a lot of yacht designers in the 1990s, and then they weren’t.) Heavily built on a modified-V hull with moderate beam and a solid fiberglass bottom, the light maple (or oak) interior of the Hatteras 42 was offered with or without a fixed dinette to starboard in the salon. The layout features a master stateroom aft with diagonal queen bed, two large cedar lined hanging lockers, and en suite head and shower. The guest stateroom is forward with upper/lower bunks and private access to a guest head and shower. The mid-level galley is forward of the salon on the port side; located just under the front cabin windows, the entire galley area is flooded with natural lighting. A hatch in the salon sole provides access to the engine room. Exiting the salon, the semi-enclosed aft deck includes a wet bar, and the flybridge—just three steps up—has a centerline helm and lounge seating aft. A transom door in the cockpit opens to the swim platform. Cat 375hp Cat diesels cruise at 17 knots–18 knots.
