Hatteras Yachts

41 Convertible

1964–70

Hatteras Yachts 41 Convertible
Sharing the same hull as the Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin motor yacht, the classic Hatteras 41 Convertible continues to be a highly visible and still-popular boat decades after going out of production. (Note that there was an even earlier Hatteras 41 Convertible—the very first production Hatteras ever built—that ran from 1960–63.) Her chief attributes today remain her rugged all-fiberglass construction, a practical two-stateroom interior layout, a sizable fishing cockpit, and quality hardware and fixtures. A lower helm station was standard, and the interior was finished in mahogany. While the salon and staterooms aren’t notably large, they’re still comfortable and can easily be updated at a moderate cost. The Hatteras 41 is almost totally dated by today’s standards—the flybridge is ancient, and the ride, while stable, is wet. Although 300hp gas engines were standard, most early Hatteras 41s were powered with the 283hp GM 8V53N diesels—a tight fit in the 41’s small engineroom. Average cruising speed is 15–16 knots. Pre-owned models remained popular on the brokerage market well into the 1990s.
