Bertram Yachts
72 Convertible
1990–92
Designed to be one of the fastest production sportfishing yachts of her kind in the late 1990s, the Bertram 72 made extensive use of balsa coring throughout the hull including the bottom—a first for any Bertram yacht. Like nearly all Bertrams, the hull is a deep-V design with 17 degrees of deadrise aft and a sweeping sheer stepped just forward of the cockpit. The interior could be customized to an owner’s specifications; however, the standard the three-stateroom, three-head layout proved popular with most buyers. (Note the full-width master stateroom below the galley.) The bridge is enclosed and air conditioned, and a second outside helm overlooks the massive cockpit. A convenient day head is provided on a small deck abaft the salon bulkhead. Additional features include a huge walk-in engine room, a sea chest to eliminate thru-hulls, trolling valves, and an optional bow thruster. The first hulls were fitted with 1,960hp MTUs, although 1,440hp Detroits were standard. The MTUs can be expected to cruise at 29 knots and deliver a top speed of around 33 knots. Only five of these powerful yachts were built.
