28 Moppie
1988–95
The last in a series of Bertram 28-footers, the 28 Moppie is a well-styled inboard runabout with the quality engineering and rugged construction one expects in a Bertram product. She’s built on a beamy, solid fiberglass deep-V hull with a steep 23 degrees of transom deadrise. Aside from her superb handling characteristics, the Moppie’s primary attraction remains her expansive and versatile bi-level cockpit layout. The lower level has plenty of room for a fighting chair, and the low freeboard adds significantly to her fishability. In an unusual design twist, the Moppie’s galley is on deck, concealed in molded lockers abaft the helm and companion seats. Twin hatches in the bridge deck sole provide excellent service access to the engines. Below deck, the compact cuddy cabin includes a head with a foldaway cover, sink, and V-berth. Additional features include a vented windshield, a painted bow rail and windshield, and teak interior trim. A good performer with standard 260hp MerCruiser gas engines, the 28 Moppie will cruise at 22–24 knots (30 knots top). Optional 230hp Volvo diesels cruise at 28 knots.
