46 Moppie

1993–96

Bertram Yachts 46 Moppie
Introduced in 1993, the Bertram 46 Moppie was built on a stretched version of the proven Bertram 43 Convertible hull with cored hullsides, a wide beam, and a relatively steep 17 degrees of transom deadrise. This was one of the bigger express cruisers produced in the early 1990s, and like previous Moppies the 46 was aimed at the market for both serious anglers and upscale cruisers alike. Offered with several interior layouts, the single-stateroom floorplan (with two heads—very unusual) appealed more to the sportfish market while the two-stateroom layout is more suited for cruising activities. Either way, there’s seating on the bridge deck for a small crowd, and the sportfish version came with molded tackle centers in the cockpit. Until 1995, the Moppie had reversed engines with V-drive-like shaft couplers; thereafter, the engine installations were straight inboards. Also in 1995, the genset was moved from under the cockpit into the more protected environment of the engineroom. A good-running boat and a comfortable ride in a chop, a pair of 735hp 8V92s cruise the Bertram 46 Moppie at a fast 28–29 knots and reach top speeds in the neighborhood of 32 knots.
