43 Moppie

1995–96

Bertram Yachts 43 Moppie
Express fishermen over 40 feet have become popular in recent years with hard-core anglers, and the Bertram 43 Moppie was pitted against some very tough competition when she was introduced in 1995. (Too tough as it turned out; production lasted only two years.) Like all Bertrams, the 43 was heavily constructed on a deep-V hull with a relatively wide beam and a well-flared bow. Two different deck layouts were available: the cruising version has a radar arch and wraparound seating in the cockpit, and the sportfishing version has a completely unobstructed cockpit with a transom fish box, direct cockpit access to the engine room, rod storage, and a transom door and gate. Below decks, the Moppie’s maplewood interior is arranged with a huge galley, berths for four adults, and a spacious head with separate stall shower. Additional features include a molded bow pulpit, a doublewide helm seat with lounge seating opposite, and fairly wide side decks. A good performer, the 43 Moppie will cruise at a fast 27 knots with standard 550hp 6V92 diesels and reach 30+ knots top. Those powered with 625hp DDEC 6V92s cruise at 26–28 knots.
