33 Sport Fisherman
1979–92
The Bertram 33 Sport Fisherman (not to be confused with the Bertram 33 Flybridge Cruiser built during the same time period) is a purebred sportfishing boat whose large cockpit and rock-solid construction made her a favorite of offshore anglers for many years. Built on the same solid fiberglass deep-V hull as the 33 Flybridge Cruiser, the 33 Sport fisherman has a lower profile and much larger cockpit than her sistership, but a more compact interior. The cabin, which originally featured a booth-style dinette as well as a small galley and head, was modified in 1986 when the rear cabin bulkhead was moved aft several inches to create more interior space. In the new layout, an L-shaped settee replaced the booth dinette and a separate stall shower was installed in the head. (On the downside, moving the bulkhead aft made engine access a little more difficult.) A lower helm was optional. Cockpit engine boxes offer easy access to the motors, and the flybridge has bench seating forward of the helm. Hatches in the cockpit sole provide access to the bilge and fuel shutoffs, etc. Twin 330hp gas engines were standard (20 knots cruise/28–30 top). Optional 260hp 3208T Cat diesels cruise in the low 20s.
