HMY Yacht Sales Professional and Viking Yachts Specialist Rob Spano brings us along for a ride on board the Viking Yachts 58 Convertible off the coast of Palm Beach. The Viking 58 Convertible truly has everything one could want in a sportfish yacht – luxury and fishability. She is a very agile, quick maneuvering vessel with the comfortable accommodations you desire for you and your guests.

Once inside the Viking Yachts 58 Convertible, you’ll notice the salon is extremely spacious and provides plenty of room for entertaining family and friends. Located on the starboard side is the electrical panel behind the high-gloss walnut cabinetry along with some storage, liquor cabinet and a pop-up TV.  Moving forward there is a dinette area that seats six comfortably. On the port side of the salon is an L-shaped couch which provides storage underneath for rods and tackle. The galley of the 58 C is beautifully laid out featuring two barstools located at the front of the galley with an elevated eating area. It boasts a beautiful countertop that also features a flush mounted four burner cooktop. There are four sub-zero refrigerator drawers - two refrigerators and two freezers.

Moving down the steps of the companionway on the  starboard side is a guestroom with side by side berths, TV and a hanging locker. Continuing forward you have a full-sized washer and dryer. The guest head is located forward to the starboard side which provides a full stand-up shower. All the way forward is a guestroom with crossover bunks which provide plenty of sleeping space for your guests. This room also benefits from a lot of natural light created by the hatch above. The Viking 58 convertible offers a beautiful master stateroom which is located to the portside. It's accentuated by a lift up queen bed, his-and-hers hanging lockers on the aft side as well as its own private head and shower.

The cockpit of the 58 provides ample space for fishing. Some of the many features of the cockpit include a fish box in the transom that doubles as a live well, a tuna door with transom gate, two in deck fish boxes as well as refrigeration in the mezzanine step and also in the mezzanine seat. A large hatch provides access to the engine room from the cockpit. This particular 58 Convertible was built with the upgraded optional 1600 horsepower 10 cylinder MTU package and the 21.5 kilowatt Cummins Onan generators. As with any Viking model, the Viking 58’s engine room is exceptionally well laid out. You’ll find about six foot of headroom and there's four feet in front of the motors to get all the way out board and get around to work on all components. All of the water maker filters are easily accessible on the forward bulkhead and then going around to the spot zero system on the starboard outboard side. On the back bulkhead is the Eskimo ice maker as well as all compressors for the cockpit refrigeration. On the other side there's the battery chargers and the electrical panel for the 24 volt system.

This Viking 58 was specked out with a Garmin electronics package. When the sonar and plotter and radar is up on the screens you can interchange between the three of those inputs to any of the screens you want. In the port radio box you've got your stereo and FLIR camera and also the spotlight control panel. Overhead box you've got your two VHS as well as your auto pilot and your rd-33. Your starboard box you've got your MTU control panel as well as your Garmin controller and also the Seakeeper control pad. One of the nice aspects of having your Sea Keeper control pad right there is that when you're fishing and you get a bite you want to quickly lock up your Seakeeper. What that's going to allow you to do is fight the fish without the restrictions of the Seakeeper. For instance, if you were to lean over to switch over to cruise mode and lock the Seakeeper in position when you are backing down on the fish the boats going to react a lot better. The Viking 58 is a great sailfish and white marlin boat. Thanks to her  agility and quick maneuvering she’s fast to back up on a fish to get the leader. You can see that the MTUs don't smoke even when in hard reverse. Chasing a fish you're able to really maneuver the boat without having a lot of smoke interference. One of the nice things about these MTUs is their speed out of the hole without any smoke. Even with the turbo changeovers the boat is very smooth and clean burning. This is a great engine package for this 58 convertible.

The Viking 58 comes equipped with the bow thruster controls built right into the levers. Mounted overhead are your teaser reels for easy access during a bite. You can hit the retrieve button and get the teasers out of the water quickly. Over on the starboard side of the flybridge you've got bench seating which also serves as a place for rod storage. Up front port and starboard you have boxes on either side that are refrigerated for drink storage. Very nice seating up front with drink holders in each arm rest as well as another spot over on the port side. Anchoring on the 58 is made easy by the well-designed stainless steel fairlead and plow anchor and one of the eye catching options is the faux teak toe rail. It has the beautiful look of teak but without the maintenance.
