Viking's new 58 Convertible is set to headline their annual Dealer Meeting and Sea Trial Event next week. The three-stateroom, two-head sportfish is destined to exceed all expectations as both a tournament champion and versatile family cruising yacht offering all the quality, comfort and superior engineering you've come to expect from the Viking Yacht Company.

On the 58's flybridge, Viking's signature center console walk-around helm provides the captain with 360-degree sightlines. The Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics has custom designed and installed the 58 C's electronics, navigation, safety and audio-visual systems. Palm Beach Towers, another Viking Company, has outfitted the boat with a custom hardtop with drop-down electronics box and a full tuna tower.

Hull number one is powered by a pair of the new MTU V10 2000 M96 engines rated at 1,600 MHP each. With this power package and standard fuel, she exceeds 40 knots at the top end and delivers a comfortable cruise in the mid-30-knot range. Three different engine options from MAN are also available.

The Viking 58' Convertible boasts a 165 square-foot cockpit that you'd be hard pressed to find in another boat of this class. An arsenal of fishing equipment and an abundance of storage give you the fire power to put you in the winner's circle.

Forward of the salon's L-shaped lounge, the galley includes high-gloss teak-faced cabinetry, engineered-stone counters, a 2-stool bar area, under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer units with deep pull-out drawers, a 4-burner cooktop and a microwave/convection oven

The master and forward staterooms each have custom inner-spring mattresses and private access to the heads with spacious fiberglass shower stalls and built-in molded seats. The forward stateroom is offered with either a queen or crossover berth arrangement. The port stateroom features side-by-side berths.

The 58C will be part of a fleet of Vikings from 48 to 72 feet on display at the annual Viking Dealer Meeting and Sea Trial Event from Monday, September 10 through Wednesday, September 12. The Viking Yacht Company recently and proudly announced the second generation of their 58 Convertible, the successor to the legendary 1990s model that helped catapult the company into the larger than life sportfishing powerhouse it is today.

In a press release earlier this month Viking's President and CEO Patrick Healey said of the popular model, “From 1991 to 2000 we sold 110 of our 58 Convertibles.” “It was our largest boat at the time and a major milestone for us.” Nearly two decades later, Viking’s “Gen II” 58 C promises to once again leave the competition behind and stake its claim as not only a tournament-grade battlewagon but as the ultimate high-performing family cruising yacht in its class.

Upon its return, the new 58 Convertible makes a strong first impression with Viking's signature walk-around center console flybridge helm and spacious cockpit with observation mezzanine. The comfortable and private three-stateroom, two-head layout maximizes the vessel’s ideal 17 ft. 9 in. beam, while the salon and galley configuration provide the perfect mix of amenities for entertaining, relaxing or dining. The new 58 Convertible will make its world premiere this fall.

“She’s a true offshore thoroughbred,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “The boat is ideal for the owner/operator family man or the hardcore tournament competitor. She’ll compete in performance, engineering and interior accommodations with larger boats, certainly those well into the 60-plus-foot range.”

You'd be challenged to find a boat in its class with a cockpit larger than the 58 C’s, which measures an outstanding 165 square feet. Every Viking takes advantage of the company’s tried and true tournament experience. They've expertly outfitted the new Viking 58 C with an arsenal of fishing equipment and an abundance of storage to put you in the winner’s circle. Highlights include: a laminated in-deck backing plate for future fighting chair, rocket launcher, or table installation; a raised transom box for a live well or storage; an in-deck starboard fishbox and an optional in-deck port live well; flush-mounted rod holders; a side locker for gaffs; a walk-through transom door with lift gate; rounded coamings and toekick space for comfort and balance; and fresh and seawater wash downs.

Like all the latest Viking models, the 58 C has been purposefully designed and engineered for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, which is easily accessible through the lazarette hatch on centerline. Besides providing access to the engineroom, the observation mezzanine is filled with comfortable padded seating, a tackle cabinet with drawers and freezer and cooler space. There’s also an option for mezzanine air conditioning for added comfort. The center console walk-around command station on the flybridge is equipped with power-assisted hydraulic steering, single-lever electronic controls with station select and keypad, and electronic trolling valves. In all directions, visibility is exceptional. The captain and a companion are accommodated in two pedestal seats. Guests have their choice of console flanking lounges and an aft-facing jump seat on the starboard side.

One of the most attractive attributes of the interior’s spacious layout is the convenient walkway that extends in a straight line from the deckhouse’s aft door all the way to the forepeak. Offset slightly to starboard, this wide passageway opens up the salon, galley and dining areas and exemplifies how Viking brilliantly maximizes interior volume with comfortable, strategically placed accommodations and amenities. The salon is the ideal gathering area for relaxing and entertaining in air-conditioned comfort. It features an L-shaped lounge (with stowage beneath) with a complementing cocktail table and a home theater with flat-screen HD TV and a premium stereo system.

The galley, which is across from the starboard-side dinette that comfortably seats four adults, incorporates engineered stone counters, Amtico flooring and a two-stool bar area. Under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer units with deep pull-out drawers, high-gloss teak-faced cabinetry, a four-burner cooktop and a microwave/convection oven are just a few of the galley’s standard amenities. The master and forward staterooms each have queen-size berths with custom inner-spring mattresses and private access to the heads with spacious fiberglass shower stalls and built-in molded seats. Crossover berths also are available in the forward cabin. The port stateroom features side-by-side berths with a large hanging locker. A washer and dryer in the companionway are conveniently complemented with a nearby linen locker.

Several power packages from MAN and MTU are offered with the new Viking 58 Convertible. Hull number one is outfitted with a pair of the new MTU V10 2000 M96L engines rated at 1,600 HP each. With standard fuel (1,551 gallons), anticipated top speed is over of 40 knots with a cruise of 35 knots with this engine package. The engineroom, lazarette, forward bilge and anchor locker are coated with Snow White Awlgrip, a highly durable urethane, for visibility and easier maintenance. The engineroom houses numerous mechanical systems with superior performance and durability, including engineroom ventilation, fire suppression, and oil changing systems. Batteries are expertly mounted in custom fiberglass storage boxes, and the engineroom is also home to a pair of battery chargers and an Onan 21.5 kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series genset.

The second generation 58 Convertible will make her private debut at the annual Viking Dealer Meeting and Sea Trial Event September 10 - 12, followed by her world premiere at the 2018 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show running October 31 - November 4. As your authorized Viking Yachts Dealer, HMY Yacht Sales looks forward to introducing you to this next generation of Viking excellence.
