Introducing the Viking Yachts 74 Convertible
HMY Yacht Sales is thrilled to share the news about Viking's latest launch! Just announced today, the highly anticipated Viking 74 Convertible, a testament to over 60 years of world-class boatbuilding expertise from Viking Yachts. Poised to become the premier luxury sportfishing yacht in the 70-80 foot range, the second-generation Viking 74 is set to reign supreme as a tournament champion and speed leader.
“Our philosophy is simple—build a better boat every day,” says Viking President and CEO Pat Healey, who introduced the 82 Convertible during the company’s 60th anniversary. “The Viking 74 is the latest result of that commitment, a model that redefines performance and luxury.”
Following in the wake of the iconic Viking 72, which saw 75 hulls built and sold, the Viking 74 boasts similar top-end and cruising speeds while offering enhanced efficiency and ride quality. Viking’s team, which has over 25 years of collaboration, designed the 74 with cutting-edge technology, including Computational Fluid Dynamics software and advanced construction techniques to optimize the hull’s performance and durability.
David Wilson, Viking’s Design Manager, says, “The 74 will become the next speed king of the Viking fleet, benefiting from refinements in hull design, materials, and propulsion systems.”
The Viking 74 is equipped with an array of innovative features, including the Advanced Viking Propulsion System (AVPS) and top-of-the-line engine options from MTU, MAN, and Caterpillar, delivering unmatched speed, power, and maneuverability.
Scheduled for its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the Viking 74 will be available in multiple configurations, including an Open Bridge, Enclosed Bridge, and Sky Bridge model. Stay tuned as HMY Yacht Sales proudly brings you the Viking 74—a sportfishing yacht built to dominate.

More Information About The New Viking 74:
By comparison, the first-generation Viking 74, built between 2004 and 2008, reached a top speed of 37 knots with twin 2000HP MTU engines, which increased to 40 knots with the introduction of 2400HP engines. The new Viking 74 benefits from even more power, featuring 2600HP MTUs and advanced hull design enhancements. It also offers the Advanced Viking Propulsion System (AVPS), which incorporates struts and rudders with modified “twisted” shapes to reduce hydrodynamic resistance and boost performance.
The Viking 74 is built using carefully selected materials and techniques to maximize strength while minimizing weight. The hull, fuel, water, and waste tanks, along with the structural bulkheads, are resin-infused to optimize the fiberglass-to-resin ratio for maximum strength. Additional processes, like Light Resin Transfer Molding and the use of core materials with tailored densities, along with carbon fiber, ensure superior build quality and a best-in-class fit and finish. Weight-saving innovations, including the use of specific interior woods, further enhance performance. A modified vinylester/epoxy resin is applied throughout the hull for enhanced blister protection and structural integrity.
Cockpit and Flybridge
The Viking 74 boasts a spacious 216-square-foot cockpit, extending nearly 10 inches longer than the Viking 72. This expansive cockpit includes two full-length, insulated in-deck fish boxes with split lids on both the port and starboard sides. A centerline hatch provides easy access to the available Seakeeper 26 or 40. The walkthrough transom door with lift gate is positioned on the port side, and the raised transom fish box/live well comes in two capacities—101 gallons standard, or 122 gallons as an option.
Storage is abundant throughout the mezzanine. On the port side, you’ll find a tackle cabinet, ice chipper storage, and a refrigerated step box. The centerline steps lead to the engine room, and there are two freezer boxes on the starboard side. The mezzanine seating features premium outdoor upholstery with dry storage underneath, offering guests comfort in the shade of the flybridge overhang. For added convenience, mezzanine air conditioning is also available.
The flybridge is designed for superior visibility, with a 7-inch-high platform at the helm offering excellent views of the cockpit. The walkaround center console features a recessed black acrylic dash with flush-mounted multifunction displays. The helm is streamlined and user-friendly, with dual radio boxes, a helm pod, single lever electronic controls, and a stainless-steel steering wheel. Optional air conditioning enhances comfort, while three Release Marine helm chairs with teak ladder backs add a touch of luxury.
Forward of the console is a full-length lounge with a standard freezer underneath. Dual forward freezers, a feature borrowed from the Viking 82, provide separate storage for bait and food. The forward flybridge also includes a sink and a refrigerated drink box. Additional seating modules on both the port and starboard sides feature back-to-back lounges with storage beneath.
Salon and Interior
Enter the salon through a port-side electric sliding door from the mezzanine. The Viking 74’s interior is adorned with natural walnut wood, available in satin or gloss finishes. The meticulous joinery is highlighted by dovetail drawer construction. A large sofa on the starboard side includes rod storage below, paired with a walnut hi-lo table. Across from the lounge, an entertainment center features an HDTV that rises from within the cabinetry.
The port-side raised dinette offers a walnut table with wraparound seating and additional rod storage below. The galley comes in two configurations: the standard U-shaped layout allows for a larger lounge, while the optional open galley features an island counter, open to the lounge on the starboard side. Both setups include two Sub-Zero under-counter refrigerators, one freezer, ample counter space, and a raised bar with three stools.
Galley highlights include Amtico flooring, a Miele four-burner electric cooktop (with an optional conventional oven), stainless-steel sink, microwave/convection oven, trash compactor, and abundant cabinetry for storage. A forward pantry adds even more space for provisions.
Accommodations
The Viking 74 offers a four-stateroom layout, each with its own ensuite head and separate shower. The forepeak layout features a dedicated rod and tackle room, with a customizable cabinet and benchtop. The crew quarters are accessible through a separate staircase at the foot of the companionway or through the forward engine room door.
The master stateroom is equipped with a king-size walkaround bed with storage underneath, two oak-lined hanging closets, and room for up to a 65-inch HDTV. The forward stateroom features a walkaround queen bed (also with storage below), while an optional crossover arrangement provides a full-size bunk with an additional upper bunk. The starboard and crew staterooms include upper and lower berths and hanging lockers. For those needing more sleeping capacity, a fifth stateroom can be added in place of the rod and tackle room, allowing the five-stateroom layout to accommodate up to 11 guests.
Engine Room and Mechanicals
The Viking 74’s engine room is finished in Snow White Awlgrip for easy maintenance and includes state-of-the-art systems such as chilled water air conditioning, ventilation, and fire suppression. Twin 29 kW generators with voltage and electronic frequency control power the vessel, and it’s ready for the installation of omnidirectional sonar.
Optional equipment like water makers, purifiers, and ice machines are expertly installed, and the Centralized Seawater System with SeaStrong seal-less pumps reduces complexity while enhancing reliability and component longevity. Additionally, the 74 is offered with the CLEARLINE System, which prevents marine growth in seawater plumbing lines.
Viking subsidiaries Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers can customize the 74 Convertible with communication, navigation, and entertainment systems, as well as a custom tuna tower for a turnkey delivery from the factory. The Viking 74 will make its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, with hull No. 1 featuring an open bridge model powered by twin 2635MHP MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls. Other engine options include models from MTU, MAN, and Caterpillar, with the 74 also available as an Enclosed Bridge model, with or without a tuna tower, or as a Sky Bridge model.
