For decades, Nimbus has built boats with a clear philosophy rooted in purpose, usability, and timeless Scandinavian design. Today, that philosophy is being expressed more clearly than ever as the Nimbus WTC 12 officially becomes the Nimbus 42 Sport Cruiser.

This is not a reinvention of the model. It is a return to the naming heritage that has defined Nimbus since the beginning.

From the earliest Nimbus catalogs, the company organized its boats into two distinct families: Sport Cruisers and Coupe Cruisers. These were not marketing terms or engineering classifications. They described how the boats were intended to be used and experienced on the water.

Now, those original names are returning to the forefront.

A RETURN TO NIMBUS HERITAGE

Nimbus has always built two families of boats. Sport Cruisers and Coupe Cruisers.

The names themselves are deeply rooted in the brand’s history, tracing back to the original vision of the Wiklund brothers, who founded Nimbus with a commitment to purposeful Scandinavian craftsmanship.

The modern 42 Sport Cruiser carries forward a lineage that has shaped some of the most iconic performance and leisure boats in Nimbus history. That heritage includes legendary models such as the 22 Spectra, the 26 Epoca, and the 32 Ballista — boats that defined the sport boat category in their eras.

The lineage continued through the celebrated Nova range, from the 22 Nova through the 33 Nova and 43 Nova, along with the iconic 230R, 250R, and 300R models that became known for their versatility, utility, and unmistakable Nimbus identity.

Every one of those models contributed to what the modern Sport Cruiser family represents today.

THE 42 SPORT CRUISER: SAME PHILOSOPHY, CLEARER IDENTITY

The transition from WTC 12 to 42 Sport Cruiser reflects something Nimbus believes has always been true:

Every Nimbus has always been either a Sport Cruiser or a Coupe Cruiser. Now the name on the boat says so.

The design philosophy itself has not changed. The 42 Sport Cruiser continues to deliver the same versatility, functionality, and premium Scandinavian craftsmanship owners already know from the WTC 12 platform. The difference is that the naming now aligns more directly with the boat’s heritage and identity within the Nimbus family.

It is a confident step forward that honors nearly six decades of design evolution while creating a clearer structure for the future of the brand.

BUILT INTO THE BOAT ITSELF

Nimbus is reinforcing this transition not only through language, but physically within the product itself.

New Sport Cruiser emblems are now being designed, produced, and mounted with the same precision and attention to detail found throughout every Nimbus yacht. High-gloss chrome lettering, refined tooling, and carefully crafted placement on the hull reflect the same philosophy that has guided Nimbus since 1968.

The emblem is more than a badge. It is a physical connection between heritage and modern expression.

While the visual identity is contemporary, the conviction behind it remains unchanged.

SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN SINCE 1968

For 58 years, Nimbus has maintained a distinct approach to yacht design — one centered on functionality, simplicity, comfort, and purposeful innovation.

The 42 Sport Cruiser represents the continuation of that philosophy.

It is not a new direction for Nimbus. It is a clearer expression of what Nimbus has always been. Scandinavian design, since 1968.
