53rd Annual Bucc Cup Comes To Town

By Michael Cummins   January 8, 2016

The Winter sailfish circuit is upon us and Palm Beach County is once again excitedly gearing up for the 53rd Annual Buccaneer Cup, one of the oldest and most prestigious billfish tournaments in the country. This two-day sportfishing tradition attracts the most elite of anglers throughout South Florida for some friendly competition. This year, the Buccaneer Cup will have the highest payout in the tournament’s history which will make catching the biggest and best that much sweeter. Your entry fee puts you in the running for the $10,000 grand prize plus tickets to the Captain’s party and awards dinner. Three Calcutta categories including overall, live and dead bait options will give your potential winnings a nice boost!

Not just another sailfish tournament, the annual Buccaneer Cup is truly a historical pillar of catch and release billfish tournaments. Developed in 1963 by members of the historic Buccaneer Yacht Club in Palm Beach, the Bucc Cup has stood the test of time and is now synonymous with Florida sport fishing. As a non-profit event, all proceeds from the Bucc Cup benefit the Recreational Fishing Alliance, an organization whose mission is to protect the rights of fishermen while also promoting the conservation of marine resources.

HMY Yacht Sales is proud to be one of the premier sponsors for this tournament alongside of another industry leader, Viking Yachts. Many other highly regarded marine brands have also lent their support.

The 53rd Annual Buccaneer Cup will kick off with a Captain’s meeting at the Buccaneer Yacht club on Singer Island at 6pm, January 21st. The two days of fishing will take place on January 22nd and 23rd with lines in at 8am and lines out by 3:30pm. Boats may leave from Lake Worth or Jupiter inlets, no earlier than 6:30am and must return catch logs to Sailfish Marina or Castaway Marina by 5:00pm.

HMY wishes the best of luck to all the Bucc Cup anglers, may your lines be tight and your catches prize-winning!
