2013 Paragon 94′ Sky Lounge Motor Yacht: A Refined, Open Plan Masterpiece
Of the many striking elements and meticulous details on “Blue Ridge”—a beautifully customized 94’ Paragon Sky Lounge Motor Yacht—the unquestionable belle of the ball is the expansive Main Deck Lounge that includes a stunning 180-degree view through the pilothouse windows and contributes to “Blue Ridge” feeling and operating like a much larger boat.
Using his many years of boating experience, her knowledgeable owner immediately knew what he wanted to do after first stepping foot on board—remove the traditional helm station (moving it up top) and the pilothouse to free up the main deck and create a truly open and airy atmosphere. To accomplish this and other custom work, he hired Cindy Holloway of CCH Design to oversee the interior décor, cabinetry, layout, and design.
Paragon President Scott Robinson was more than happy to oblige. As reported by Yachting magazine in 2010, Robinson is “an experienced captain with thousands of sea miles, several projects, and four Paragons to his build credit. And while he didn't go so far as to name the line of boats after himself in the tradition of builders such as Trumpy or Burger, each is a reflection of his restlessly exacting mind.”
“’Delivering boats and being a private yacht captain for 25-plus years, I saw a lot of my customers and owners that wanted to move up,’ says Robinson. ‘So we'd go shop the market around the world, looking for the right yard to build their next boat, and we'd come up short. I had enough horsepower from the guys who wanted to move up, and I said 'Let me do it for you, I know what you want.'"
In addition to the signature customizations on “Blue Ridge,” she’s also in immaculate condition. She has very low hours (1640), her owner has his captain’s license, and for large chunks of time, she acted more as a floating condo in Maine, Bar Harbor, and Charleston, resulting in minimum wear and tear.
Main Deck Lounge
The Main Deck Lounge features an exquisite full-beam salon, day head, gourmet galley with 180-degree views, and aft deck dining and entertaining area.
The owner and Holloway played around with multiple MDL configurations before landing on the final design. Even though they removed the traditional helm station, they still wanted controls on the main deck, but out of the way. They added a hidden pop-up control station so if you head down to the galley to make a sandwich you’ll have full vessel control on the main deck.
Salon
Enter the spacious full-beam salon from twin sliding aft doors and immediately experience the luxuriousness of this wide-open space. Relaxing or entertaining, everyone will have copious amounts of room, and the wool carpet with Soundown barrier padding reduces noise and vibration, ensuring peace and quiet.
The salon also features a cleverly designed port aft stairway with access to engine room, utility room, and captain’s cabin.
Galley
With the traditional helm station removed, looking forward of the galley is a large open area with pilothouse windows giving you an incredible 180-degree forward view.
The gallery features one of the more unique customizations on “Blue Ridge.” The owner wanted more pantry space and the only potential spot was occupied by the AC blower. The solution was to couple it with another blower in the MDL and voila—two new large pull-out pantries for more storage.
Sky Lounge
The sky lounge features a full helm station, large L-shaped Dinette, a day head, and access to a large outdoor entertainment area with tender storage. The owner prefers the visibility offered up top, as well as the additional protection from water spray, especially in inclement weather.
The full cockpit with swim platform is perfect for entertaining guests and enjoying water sports, and also provides another safe route to the engine room.
Accommodations
“Blue Ridge” features 3 full-beam staterooms, each with ensuite heads. The VIP stateroom features an L-shaped sofa that converts to a double bed for extra guests.
Full crew quarters with ensuite head and pop down berth are located off of the utility area/crew galley and lounge room.
There are lots of stone accents around the boat, particularly in the heads and staterooms. These details were so important to the owner that he flew a master mason from California to Taiwan to handle the intricate work.
