Every so often there comes along a boat that changes the game for sportfishing tournament vessels and you begin to feel the excitement and anticipation of its arrival. Viking Yachts has announced such a yacht in the all-new 80 Convertible. For more than two decades, Viking Yachts has been the standard when it comes to the design, development, and production of the meanest sportfishing yachts in the world. Because of the quality and high-level performance, Viking has been the go-to vessel for anyone on the tournament trail looking for a leg up on the competition. This commitment to excellence starts at the top with the Healey family who own Viking Yachts and seeps into every craftsman that so diligently has a hand in constructing each boat. Once you step foot on the new Viking 80 you are not going to want to step off.

A reflection of its sisterships – the Viking 92 and 62 – the new 80’s sleek styling showcases a sheer line with nine feet of freeboard forward tapering to slightly more than three feet at the stern giving it an aggressive profile that will literally scare a marlin into the boat. The hull’s sharper entry merges with a higher forward chine designed to push the spray downward when running in head seas. Convex hull sections add curvature and form to their refined running surface, while a quad of molded running strakes accentuate lateral tracking and maneuverability. Tumblehome at the corners of the curved transom adds an extra layer of definition and beauty not seen in other comparable sportfish. The beam is carried well aft providing an amazing amount of space, buoyancy, and balance which helps to accommodate additional fuel for long journeys to the honey-hole and the weight of the gyro-stabilizer.
