West Bay Yachts 4500 Pilothouse
For those more interested in seaworthy construction than glitz, the West Bay 4500 Pilothouse is a reminder of why many boating enthusiasts favor vessels from the Pacific Northwest. The West Bay 4500 was built in British Columbia on a commercial hull originally designed for Canadian Coast Guard search-and-rescue purposes. Constructed with a watertight bulkhead forward and a watertight engine room, her solid glass hull features a flared bow, moderate beam, and a shallow keel. Inside, the layout is arranged with access to the lower-level staterooms via a salon companionway rather than from the pilothouse. The galley is forward in the salon, and there are three staterooms and two full heads in the standard floorplan. (A two-stateroom layout with an enlarged master was optional.) Additional features include a spacious cockpit with engine room access, walkaround side decks, and oak cabinetry and trim throughout. Among several engine options, 300hp Cummins or 320hp Cats cruise around 19–20 knots, and 375hp/425hp Cats cruise at 20 and 22 knots respectively. A total of 15 West Bay 4500s were built.
