With her muscular pilothouse styling and luxury-class accommodations, the West Bay 78 SonShip exudes a sophisticated elegance seldom surpassed in the world of semi-custom motoryachts. Built in the Canadian Northwest, the 78 became a popular model for West Bay following her introduction as a 75-footer in 1998. Stretched to her current length in 2000, several floorplan variations were available during her production years. The standard three-stateroom layout has the galley to port on the pilothouse level, separated from the salon by a full-height bulkhead. Forward of the galley is a raised settee with a spectacular view through the pilothouse windows. Each stateroom on the lower level is served by an ensuite head, and an office in the full-beam master can easily be configured as a fourth stateroom. Crew quarters are aft, accessed from a watertight door on the swim platform. The covered afterdeck is particularly spacious, and the flybridge comes with a barbecue, refreshment center, and an optional Jacuzzi. The engine room contains a workbench and provides good access to the motors. MTU 1,500hp diesels cruise the 78 Sonship at 23 knots (mid to high 20s top).
