Queen of the Wellcraft fleet when she was introduced in 1984, the 3400 Gran Sport (called the 3400 Express in 1984) combined contemporary 1980’s styling and spacious accommodations at a very competitive price. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a wide 12-foot, 6-inch beam, the chief attraction of the Gran Sport is her expansive, open-plan interior—a feature made possible by the absence of any structural cabin bulkheads. (Note that open-plan floorplans like this have become the norm in recent years.) The interior, updated in 1986, sleeps six: two in the bow stateroom, two on the converted dinette, and two more when the U-shaped settee in the midcabin is converted into a double berth. With her full-service galley, generous salon seating, and roomy head this is a comfortable boat for her size with more elbow space than most 34-footers. In 1988 a bolt-on swim platform was added, and in 1990 the Gran Sport was again updated on the outside with new hull graphics and a stylish white-on-white helm console. Additional features include a cockpit wet bar, full-beam transom seat, radar arch, and integral bow pulpit. A good performer with standard 340hp gas engines, she’ll cruise at 20s (about 28 knots top).
