Wellcraft got it right in 1998 with the introduction of the 3000 Martinique, a good-looking family express with roomy accommodations and a good turn of speed. She’s built on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull, and her generous 10'6"" beam results in an expansive, user-friendly layout in both the cockpit and cabin. Like most express cruisers in this size range, the Martinique has a traditional midcabin floorplan designed to meet the cruising needs of four adults and two kids. Privacy curtains separate the fore and aft sleeping areas from the salon, and locating the refrigerator under the forward dinette seat increased galley storage. Topside, the driver’s side of the double-wide helm flips up to form a bolster for standup driving. Cockpit amenities include a wet bar with sink and refrigerator, transom shower, and removable cockpit table. An electrically operated hatch in the cockpit sole lifts to reveal a roomy engine compartment. On the downside, the swim platform is narrow compared with newer express boats. A good performer with twin 250hp or 300hp I/Os, the 3000 Martinique will cruise in the mid 20s and hit a top speed in excess of 40 knots.
