With her yacht-style accommodations and massive cockpit, the Viking 72 (introduced in 1995 as the Viking 68) is one of just a handful of full-production convertibles in this size range ever offered. This was a state-of-the-art yacht when she came out with the speed and handling qualities of a convertible and the accommodations of a luxury motor yacht. The 72 rides on a beamy modified-V hull—the first Viking convertible built with a cored bottom. The accommodations include four staterooms and four heads (including a day head in the salon) with a spectacular full-beam master suite amidships. The opulent salon is arranged with the galley and dinette forward, a couple of steps up from the salon level. Note the walk-in storage room forward of the galley. The Viking’s enclosed flybridge comes with a wet bar and seating for a small crowd, and there’s a second helm station aft overlooking the cockpit for docking maneuvers. The full walkaround engine room is a masterpiece of engineering, and the massive 216-square-foot cockpit comes with a complete array of tournament amenities. Standard 1800hp diesels cruise the Viking 72 at 25–26 knots.
