One of the largest express fishermen on the market when she was introduced in 1999, the Viking 50 Open is as beautifully styled as she is functional. She’s built on the same fully hull as the Viking 50 Convertible—one of the most successful fishing boats ever—with a wide beam, cored hullsides, and a well-flared bow. The unobstructed cockpit of the 50 Open is huge, and the raised command bridge, with its centerline helm, L-shaped lounge and triple helm seats, is the focal center of the boat. Below deck, the lush single- or twin-stateroom interior is an appealing blend of high-gloss teak woodwork, Corian countertops, and quality hardware and appliances. (Note the convenient day head near the cabin entryway in both layouts.) Fishing features include two in-deck fish boxes, a big livewell, a custom tackle center with sink and freezer, fresh- and saltwater washdowns, and a transom door. The engine room, reached directly from the cockpit, is one of the best in the business with excellent all-around access. Standard 800hp MANs cruise the Viking 50 Open at 30 knots (33–34 knots top), and optional 1200hp MANs cruise at 35 knots and reach a top speed of close to 40 knots.
