The Viking 50 Cockpit MY is basically a Viking 44 MY with a cockpit extension and extra fuel. With her low-profile silhouette and rakish sheer, the Viking 50 remains a good-looking yacht in spite of her age, and used models retain strong resale values. Her two-stateroom layout (updated in 1988 with a queen bed forward) is identical to the Viking 44 MY interior with the galley and dinette down, a wide-open salon, full-width master stateroom, and an abundance of rich teak woodwork. Outside, the aft deck is particularly spacious (a hardtop and wing doors were popular options) with room for entertaining a small crowd in comfort. The cockpit, accessed via a ladder descending from the aft deck, is large enough for fishing and swimming activities but lacks a transom door. Additional features include a well-arranged flybridge, wide side decks, a swim platform, and excellent storage. On the downside, the engine room is small, and the props and rudders remain where they were in the original Viking 44 hull rendering down-sea handling a little on the skittish side. Optional 450hp 6-71 Detroits cruise at 2223 knots.
