Not only is the Viking 42 Open the smallest model in the current Viking fleet, she (and her sistership, the Viking 42 Convertible) is the first sportfishing boat to be powered with Zeus pod drives. With her graceful sheer and muscular lines, the 42 Open is built on a modified-V hull with a wide 15'10"" beam and a solid fiberglass bottom with prop pockets. The split mezzanine overlooking the 120-sq.-ft. cockpit conceals insulated storage compartments under the seats, and post/starboard fish boxes and a transom door with gate are standard in the cockpit. A bait freezer and transom livewell are optional. A center-console helm on the slightly raised bridge deck provides unobstructed 360-degree visibility. The entrance below is offset to port and opens to a spacious galley to starboard and an L-shaped settee to port with dinette table. Viking offers two- and three-stateroom layouts: The standard layout features a midcabin with twin berths and an island double forward, while the optional layout loses the dinette in favor of a third cabin with over/under berths and a second head. Cummins 600hp diesels with Zeus drives cruise at 25–26 knots (low 30s top).
