The 35 Sportfisherman was Viking’s first entry into the market for open express fishing boats. She was built on the proven modified-V hull used for the Viking 35 Convertible, and while she’s obviously made for fishing, the interior was finished with the same care that Viking lavishes on their larger yachts. The cockpit—a step down from the bridge deck with its tackle cabinet and rod storage—has more working space than many 40-footers. A pair of removable fish boxes are recessed into the floor, and there’s plenty of room for installing a fighting chair. Below deck, the teak interior provides accommodations for four with a V-berth forward and a convertible dinette to port. Note that the toilet is fitted in the shower compartment to save space in the head. Storage is very adequate, and headroom in the main cabin is about 6 feet, 3 inches. On the downside, engine access is difficult and the ride can be a little harsh in rough seas. Standard gas engines cruise the Viking 35 at 19 knots with a top speed of 28 knots. Optional 355hp Cats cruise at a fast 27 knots and reach over 30 knots wide open. A total of 32 were built.
