Introduced in 1994, the Viking Sport Cruisers 50 Flybridge (called the Viking SC48 until 1998 when the swim platform was extended) is a high-performance cruising yacht with a Med-style profile and luxury-class accommodations. Like her sisterships in the Viking Sport Cruiser series, the hull is a deep-V design with moderate beam and prop pockets for reduced shaft angles and draft. The floorplan is unusual for a boat this size in that it could be configured with three staterooms forward (where there are usually only two) with the option of a fourth, low-headroom cabin under the aft deck for children or crew. The standard floorplan, however, was a two-stateroom layout with the galley and dinette down and two full heads. Outside, the spacious cockpit has a built-in bench seat at the transom, direct engine room access, and a walk-through transom door. Note that the side decks are very wide, and the flybridge—accessed via molded cockpit steps in the salon bulkhead—features lounge seating for six. Volvo 380hp diesels cruise at 20–22 knots. Twin 435hp Cat—or 430hp Volvo—diesels run a couple of knots faster.
