With the sleek profile of a South Florida custom boat, the Topaz 38 Flybridge is a rugged East Coast canyon runner with a practical interior layout and a good turn of speed. Aside from her outright sex appeal, serious anglers are attracted to the large and uncluttered cockpit with port and starboard tackle centers, in-deck fish box, transom door, and space for a full-size fighting chair. A flybridge overhang shades the forward part of the cockpit, and teak covering boards were a popular option. Unlike most convertibles in this size range, the Topaz 38 was offered with only a single-stateroom floorplan—a fact that limits her market appeal among those who use their boat for family cruising. With her large cockpit dimensions, the interior is small compared with other boats her size. In an effort to keep the profile low, the salon settee and dinette are elevated from the salon sole. This—combined with the outboard saddle tanks—makes for a very tight engine room. Additional features include relatively wide side decks, an offset bridge ladder (to conserve cockpit space), and a teak bow pulpit. GM 450hp 6-71s diesels cruise in the mid 20s (close to 30 knots top).
