Stamas center consoles are called the “Tarpons” in reference to the city of Tarpon Springs Florida, where they have been built since 1952. A popular model, the 290 Tarpon is a traditional, strictly-business center console designed to appeal to anglers with an appreciation for the rugged durability long associated with the Stamas brand. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and the Tarpon’s clean lines and full-height transom combine to create a boat of striking good looks and functionality. The standard leaning post incorporates a rigging station with a freshwater sink and a large livewell. A second livewell is built into the walk-through transom, and two lockable in-deck storage boxes flank the console. There’s space at the helm for flush-mounting the necessary electronics, and the walk-in head compartment is accessed from the front of the console. The deck is flush from stern to bow where a filler converts the U-shaped seating into a casting platform. A 300-gallon fuel capacity provides good range even with the biggest outboards. Available with a single inboard (gas or diesel) or twin outboards, a pair of 250hp Yamahas deliver a top speed of around 40 knots.
