The Skipjack 26 is a sturdy, well-built West Coast fisherman designed to satisfy the needs of anglers seeking a trailerable, offshore-capable design. There are just a handful of flybridge models (from any manufacturer) in this size range; the added topside weight of a flybridge—combined with a narrow beam—often results in a very tender boat. The Skipjack avoids this problem by using a small bridge and a low-profile deckhouse to provide sufficient stability for open-water cruising. Heavily built on a solid fiberglass hull and well finished throughout, there are basic accommodations for four in the oak-trimmed cabin which includes a small galley, dinette, an enclosed head with shower, and adequate storage. The cockpit, with about 60 square feet of open space, is roomy enough for two anglers, and a large hatch in the sole provides easy access to the engine. Additional features include twin bucket seats on the bridge, a full fiberglass cabin liner, fairly wide side decks, storage lockers, and a swim platform. Among several engine options offered over the years, a single 280hp Volvo gas sterndrive will cruise at 25–26 knots and reach a top speed of close to 30 knots.
