This won’t come as a shock to most boaters, but there’s a big difference between a Viking or Hatteras convertible and what Silverton calls a convertible. It’s not just cost; convertible models are called that because they split the difference between fishing and cruising. And it’s doubtful any hardcore anglers are going to buy a Silverton 45 Convertible to fish. That said, the 45 is a fine cruising yacht, and compared with convertible models from other big-name builders the Silverton is more affordable in every way. Built on a low-deadrise hull with a wide 15'4"" beam, her expansive three-stateroom interior (most 45-footers have two) can accommodate three couples in privacy and comfort. The salon, galley and dinette are on the same level—always a plus—and wraparound windows provide panoramic views of the water. Both the master stateroom and starboard guest stateroom have double beds, and a washer/dryer can be fitted in second guest cabin to port. Note that both heads have separate stall showers. The Silverton’s big 80-square-foot cockpit features a wet bar with refrigerator and engine room access door. A hardtop was standard. Volvo 575hp diesels cruise at 22 knots (high 20s top).
