One of the more versatile yachts in her class, the Silverton 442 is a stylish coastal cruiser with spacious accommodations, a large aft deck, and a small cockpit useful for swimming or fishing. She was built on a solid fiberglass, modified-V hull with a fully integrated swim platform—the same basic hull used in the production of the Silverton 402 Motor Yacht. Below decks, the 442’s standard two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley and dinette down. Both staterooms have double berths and both heads have separate stall showers. Note that the bed in the aft stateroom is placed against the forward bulkhead, facing aft toward a full-height sliding glass cockpit door. While this door makes cockpit access especially convenient, its vulnerability in rough, following seas makes the 442 a fair-weather vessel. Weather boards, molded seating, and a wet bar were standard on the aft deck, and a storage locker is built into the swim platform. Topside, the helm console is on the centerline, and a clear panel in the hardtop provides visibility aft. No racehorse, standard 405hp gas engines cruise at just 14–15 knots (low 20s top). Optional Cummins 355hp diesels cruise at close to 20 knots.
