Sportboat enthusiasts will find much to like in the Sea Ray 310 Amberjack, a versatile, good-looking day boat with the aggressive low-profile appearance of a small Bertram or Blackfin. She’s built on a modified-V hull with cored hullsides, a wide beam, prop pockets, and a relatively steep 18 degrees of transom deadrise. The Amberjack’s original design emphasis was in the large and well-organized fishing cockpit. The cockpit can be fitted with in-deck fish boxes, rod holders, and a transom livewell. While cabin space is at a premium, the Amberjack manages to include a convertible dinette/V-berth forward as well as a standup head with shower and a small galley area. Topside, the side decks are wide enough for safe access to the bow, and motor boxes make it easy to get at the engines for routine service. Note that in 1994 Sea Ray engineers replaced the dinette opposite the helm with an elevated lounge area. Additional features include side-dumping exhausts, a removable cockpit table, cabin rod racks, cockpit lights, and a bow pulpit. A good performer with twin 310hp MerCruiser gas engines, she’ll cruise in the mid 20s and reach a top speed of just over 30 knots.
