Classic good looks, roomy accommodations, and brisk performance characterize the Sea Ray 290 Sun Sport, a well-finished sportboat from a company with a long history in developing high-end runabouts. Built on a deep-V hull with a wide beam, the Sun Sports rakish persona is accented by colorful graphics and a forward-sloping radar arch. Two cockpit seating plans were available: The standard seating includes a large sun pad aft, a starboard transom walk-through, and bucket seats forward, while the optional arrangement provides U-shaped seating aft, a back-to-back companion seat, and a centerline transom walk-through. A cockpit wet bar is standard, and a large lighted ski storage area is located in the cockpit sole. A lockable sliding cabin door with integral steps provides easy access to the foredeck. Below, the 290s well-finished cabin includes a convertible dinette/V-berth forward, compact galley with sink and refrigerator, and an enclosed head with pullout shower and VacuFlush head. The 290 Sun Sport tops out at just under 40 knots with a single 375hp MerCruiser I/O. Twin 320hp Merc I/Os reach over 45 knots top.
