President Yachts
37 Double Cabin
1986–88
Introduced in the mid 1980s, the President 37 Sundeck became popular with entry-level buyers thanks to her spacious interior and very attractive price. She was built in Taiwan on a solid fiberglass hull, and while her tall freeboard makes the 37 sensitive to the wind, a shallow, full-length keel provides much-needed directional stability. Several floorplans were available during her production years, all with a standard lower helm and all with the galley down. The President’s teak (or light oak) interior woodwork is impressively finished, and the big wraparound cabin windows create a bright and surprisingly open salon. On the downside, the 6-foot, 3-inch headroom in the main salon is just barely adequate for tall guys. Outside, the aft deck is large enough for several deck chairs, and serviceable side decks provide easy access to the bow. A bow pulpit, swim platform, and hardtop were standard. Twin 275hp Lehmans provide a 16-knot cruising speed (about 20 knots top). Optional 300hp Cummins diesels cruise at 20 knots (24–25 knots top). Note the President 395 Sundeck is the same boat with a restyled superstructure and Eurostyle transom.
