Introduced in 1988 by the “new” Pacemaker company (the original Pacemaker went under in 1980), the 34 Convertible is notable for her unusually wide 13-foot, 10-inch beam. Not surprisingly, the interior dimensions are spacious indeed with the accommodations of a much larger boat. This expansive floorplan includes a private master stateroom forward, a shower stall in the head, convertible dinette, and full galley in addition to a compact salon—an impressive layout for a 34-foot boat. The extensive use of varnished teak cabinets and trim creates a warm, very traditional interior typical of earlier Pacemaker products. On deck, the 34’s roomy cockpit came with teak covering boards, transom door, fresh and raw water washdowns, and padded coamings as standard. On the flybridge, the helm is aft with bench seating forward of the console. Additional features include a teak bow pulpit, a parquet galley sole, generator, and trim tabs. Price-wise, the Pacemaker 34 was an inexpensive boat compared with other convertibles her size. Built on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull, standard 340hp gas engines cruise at 20 knots and top out at just under 30 knots.
