The Ocean Alexander 486 and 510 Classicos (the 510 has a larger cockpit) are a pair of sturdy raised-pilothouse designs with the businesslike appearance of serious Northwest passagemakers. They’re heavily built on a modern semi-displacement hull with cored hullsides and a keel deep enough to protect the props—basically a stretched version of the smaller 456 Classico hull. Many pilothouse boats this size have three-stateroom interiors but the 486/510 has only two, both of which are very spacious (and about equal in size) with walkaround double berths, excellent storage, and roomy heads with separate stall showers. Aft of the pilothouse are the galley and salon with large cabin windows, teak parquet flooring, and sliding glass doors opening to the cockpit. The side decks are wide and well protected, and there’s space on the extended flybridge for a dinghy. Additional features include a laundry center in the forward stateroom, pilothouse deck access door, molded flybridge steps, and transom door. Note the handsome teak interior woodwork. A handsome yacht, 420hp (or 450hp) Cat diesels—small engines for a boat this size—cruise at 14–15 knots.
