The first production yacht from MJM, the 34z is a single-engine Down East cruiser whose practical character sets her apart from just about everything else on the water. It’s not just the fuel-efficient economy of the 34z that enthusiasts found so appealing—she’s big enough to entertain as many as eight on a day trip, and her exceptional range and shallow draft provide access to many remote locations. Built on a Kevlar-reinforced hull with a narrow 11-foot beam, the propeller is recessed in a pocket and protected by a prop guard. Note the classic speedboat transom and aft tumblehome. More day boat than extended cruiser, the well-finished interior of the MJM 34z includes a small galley with microwave, stove and refrigerator, enclosed head with shower, and a dinette forward that converts to a double berth. Cherry ceiling boards line the hull, and cherry cabinets and a varnished teak-and-holly sole make this an elegant living space indeed. The entire pilothouse deck rises on electric lifters for engine access. The 34z’s lightweight hull contributes to her exceptional fuel efficiency— about 2 mpg at 22 knots with a single 440hp Yanmar diesel.
