With her tall freeboard and full-bodied profile, the Meridian 408 may not be the prettiest motor yacht on the block but she definitely delivers the goods when it comes to accommodations and comfort. The 408 was one of the first really new Meridian designs—most early Meridian models were ex-Bayliners—and her condo-style interior rivals that of a small apartment. Built on a low-deadrise hull with a wide beam, the Meridian’s expansive full-width salon is easily her most notable feature. Tiered windows provide near 360-degree visibility, and the built-in entertainment center aft includes a flat-screen TV. The galley is down a couple of steps from the salon, and high-gloss cherry woodwork is applied throughout. With her huge salon and spacious bow stateroom, it’s hardly a surprise to find that the master stateroom is a bit small for a 40-footer. Here, the head and shower compartments are separated—and the bed is athwartships—to save space. Topside, a wet bar was standard on the aft deck, and the flybridge is arranged with guest seating aft of the centerline helm. Optional 370hp Cummins diesels cruise the Meridian 408 at 18–20 knots and top out in the mid 20s. Note the modest fuel capacity.
