Marine Trader Yachts 47 Tradewinds
Built in Taiwan by Lien Hwa and marketed in the U.S. by Marine Trading International, the original Tradewinds 47 (note that an all-new Tradewinds 47 came out in 1989) is a traditional sundeck yacht whose principal appeal was based on a low price, an efficient semi-displacement hull, and spacious accommodations. She rides on a solid fiberglass hull with a relatively wide beam, hard aft chines, and a shallow keel for improved directional stability. The 47’s three-stateroom interior is somewhat unusual in that the second guest stateroom is aft of the salon rather than forward—an arrangement that allows for a dinette across from the galley. A lower helm was standard in the salon (note the adjacent deck access door), and a serving counter with built-in storage lockers overlooks the large U-shaped galley. Topside, the full-width aft deck of the Tradewinds 47 is probably the largest to be found on a boat this size. Standard features included an aft-deck wet bar, hardtop, full teak interior, bow pulpit, swim platform, and radar arch. Among several engine options, twin 200 Volvo diesels cruise the Tradewinds 47 at 10–12 knots.
