The Mako 284 is a mid-tier center console from a company long known for building durable, no-nonsense fishing boats. The 284 is heavily built on a solid fiberglass hull with high gunnels and a wide 9'10"" beam. Her versatile layout, with an uncluttered cockpit and cushioned bow seating forward, is well suited for serious fishing as well as family day cruising. A bait station with freshwater sink, livewell, rod holders and tackle storage is built into the back of the leaning post, and in-deck 290-qt. fish boxes are located on either side of the cockpit. An outrigger-ready fiberglass hardtop is standard. Both the port and starboard bulwarks feature tilt-out storage bins. The lockable glove box is a nice touch, and along the centerline aft of the leaning post is a large lazarette hatch for accessing pumps and the aft bilge area. The cockpit also features horizontal rod storage under the gunwales on both sides, flush-mounted rod holders in the covering boards and a walk-through transom door to port. A Porta-Potti and freshwater sink are standard in the console head compartment. The helm console was updated in 2012. Powered with twin Verado 250hp outboards, the 284 will reach a top speed of close to 40 knots.
