Sharing the same efficient, semi-displacement hull as the Mainship 36 Double Cabin, the Mainship 36 Sedan (called the 36 Nantucket Sedan in 1987) has the interior volume of a much larger boat. Indeed, the wide-open salon is unusually generous for a 36-footer due to the fact that the cabin bulkhead is located well aft, vastly increasing the interior dimensions at the expense of cockpit space. A comfortable cruising boat, the profile of the 36 Sedan is on the boxy side and it’s doubtful anyone will refer to her as sexy. Two very similar floorplans were offered, each with a deckhouse galley and two private staterooms. A dinette is forward in the salon, and the head includes a separate stall shower. As previously mentioned, the cockpit is too small for much entertaining, however, the flybridge is very large with L-shaped lounge seating aft of the helm for several guests. A modest performer with standard 270hp gas engines, she’ll cruise at 15 knots and reach a top speed in the low 20s. Note that trim tabs were never available for the 36 Sedan, perhaps because of her semi-displacement hull design. About fifty were built during her three-year production run.
