Introduced in 1986, the Luhrs Tournament 342 was an affordable, well-equipped flybridge convertible aimed at the market for family-oriented fishermen. Her modified-V hull, with 15 degrees of transom deadrise and a warped plane for quick acceleration, is a stable low-speed fishing platform although something of a stiff ride in a chop. The cockpit is a little small for a 34-footer (a built-in fish box and livewell were standard), and the absence of a transom door is notable. Below deck, the interior is hardly opulent, but it is well suited for leisurely weekend getaways. The original layout included two staterooms, a deckhouse dinette, and oak woodwork. A much-revised floorplan was introduced in 1988 with a single stateroom, a more open salon/galley arrangement, and an updated decor with an absence of any wood. The boat also has a unique cabin ventilation system with hidden air intakes located beneath the forward bridge overhang. Additional features include a bow pulpit, fresh- and salt-water washdowns, cockpit bolsters, and a roomy flybridge with bench seating forward of the helm console. The 342 will cruise at 19–20 knots with standard gas engines and reach a top speed of around 28 knots.
