A pioneer design in the field of waterjet propulsion, the 38 Whisperjet (lengthened from 36 feet in 1999) was the first in what became a series of expensive jet-powered designs from Little Harbor Yachts. With no props or rudders, the Whisperjet’s shallow draft allows users to explore harbors and bays not always accessible to conventional inboard boats. Built on a fully cored hull, the 36 and 38 share a similar single-stateroom interior with the forward V-berths open to the salon, convertible booth-style dinette, fully equipped galley, and standup head with shower. The cabin interior has solid cherry (or mahogany) trim, a cherry ceiling, and a teak and holly sole. Located two steps up and forward of the cockpit, the bridge deck serves as the prime entertainment area on the Little Harbor Whisperjet. An L-settee seats four comfortably, and a removable seat back can be used by the co-helmsman or navigator. The entire bridge deck is hinged and lifts up for access to the engine room. (There is also a smaller hatch for quick access to the engine room.) Matched with a pair of Hamilton waterjets, twin 330hp Cummins diesels cruise at 24–25 knots (30 knots top). Twin 420hp Yanmar diesels cruise in the high 20s.
